Key Dates for Spring Term

11 Jan 2024

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!

We hope you all had a relaxing holiday, and we are impressed with the return the children have made to Handsworth.

The creative writing homework was excellent and showcased both the children’s imagination, writing talent and ever improving independence.

We want to remind you about some key dates for the Spring Term

Key Dates

MOCK SATS
Monday 26th February - Thursday 29th February

The MOCK SATs offer the children the chance to experience the environment of the hall or learning zone that they will attempt their assessments in.  We will be using the 2023 SATS papers for this week.  Please ensure the children do not have access to these papers before MOCKs as we will use the results to create support groups and to fill in any gaps in their learning.

You will find a timetable below; it is the same format that will be used for the SATS in May.

Monday 26th February Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling tests
Tuesday 27th February English Reading (comprehension)
Wednesday 28th February Maths Paper 1 (arithmetic) and 2 (reasoning)
Thursday 29th February Maths Paper 3 (reasoning)

If you want to know more about the actual SATs tests, taking place from Monday 13th May – Thursday 16th May, we have put together a comprehensive document you can access here.

If you have any questions or would like to arrange a meeting to discuss this further please see the class teachers, who would be happy to help.

SHACKING UP SHAKESPEARE
Monday 4th March – Friday 8th March

We are delighted to invite Antony Glenn back to Handsworth to deliver his Shakespeare drama workshop to Year 6. In just five days he will put together a performance that we would love for you to attend at 6pm on Friday 8th March . The show will be held in the main hall, approximately 90 minutes long and we kindly ask that you limit attendees to two people per child to ensure safe capacity.

Please do advise us before if your child cannot attend the evening performance (this will not affect their involvement in the workshop).

Kind regards,

Mr Mussell, Mr Charles & Mrs McDermott
