Maths - Investigation

02 Feb 2016

In Maths we did an investigation to find out the rules for numbers to be
multiples of 2,5 or 10.

We found out the following:

Rule for a number to be a multiple of 2.
Look at the Unit column.
If the digit is a 0,2,4,6 or 8 the number is a multiple of 2.

Rule for multiple of 5.
Look at the Unit column.
If the digit is a 0 or a 5 the number is a multiple of 5.

Rule for multiple of 10.
Look at the Unit column.
If the digit is a 0 the number is a
multiple of 10.

I checked if the number of objects can be equally shared between the 2 sides.

We shared the objects too. If we have an extra cube then the number will not be a multiple of 2.

We used our white boards and pens to divide the number by 2.

We started to look to see if there is a pattern forming.

How can I divide the number in 5?

We decided to write out the multiples of 2,5 and 10.

I can see a pattern here...
I can see all the multiples of 10 have got a 0 in the Unit column.

We tried the sharing method and writing down the multiples.

 We shared again.

Are you sure that is the rule?

Next we are going to look at the rules for numbers to be multiples of 3 or 4.
