A 5p charge for plastic bags has been introduced in shops in England to try to cut down on waste and help the environment.
The government thinks introducing a 5p charge will stop shoppers using as many new bags, and encourage people to re-use old ones.
The money will go the shop owners who can choose what to do with it, but they are expected to donate the cash to good causes.
We thought about and discussed the consequences of the 5p plastic bag charge.
We are not convinced that people will stop using plastic bags just because they have to pay for it.
Some of us thought it was a good idea because now people can use their 'bags for life'.
We don't want plastic bags to end up as litter, because it can injure animals, spoil the countryside and the sea.
Some of us thought that 5p a bag was too much money to pay for a thin plastic bag.
We do want to look after the environment.
We don't want animals and fish to die because we have been polluting the earth and water with plastic bags.
We were worried about people who didn't have enough money for plastic bags.
