A creative approach to learning.....
Questioning Children by Karel Appel
—First we had a look at the picture and talked about what we could see…
—We came up with many different answers
Robots, rocket, dog, wind up toy.
What do you see?
—We then played the memory game. We placed items in a tray and took turns to take one away in secret and the other children had to guess what was missing!
—We had very good memories!
Miss Pattimore then took away all the copies of the picture in the classroom and we had to draw the picture from memory!
It was really hard to remember everything!
—Next we spoke about people that were important to us and wrote down why they were so important.—We then designed a robot based on that person. —Finally we used recyclable materials to create our models.
Next it was time to get MESSY!
Finally we thought back to the people who inspired our robots and thought about a special power they could have.
—In literacy we used the picture to inspire a story. —In pairs we thought about who the people in the picture were. —We all decided that we thought they were robots. —We then thought about what they might be doing. —Finally we wrote a story about what we thought was happening in the picture.
In maths we looked at different shapes both 2d and 3d. We learnt about reflecting shapes using a mirror to help us. We thought about 3d shapes we use everyday. We also made some 3d shapes from nets that are now on display in our classroom.
