14 Jun 2012

Julius Caesar
The whole school were treated to an energetic and inspiring performance during assembly today of Julius Caesar. Anthony Glenn is a fantastic actor and provided an accessible version of Shakespeare, which the children really engaged with. See his website for more information:

Year 4 had an extra special opportunity to have a sixty minute drama workshop during the day where they learnt a range of acting techniques related to the play.
They took part in warm up exercises, improvised scenes from the play, learnt tips for fight scenes (which should help with our assembly tomorrow), free framed scenes from the story (see pics below) and then re-told the whole story in small groups. The children had an amazing day and did Handsworth proud!
Marc Anthony offers the crown to Caesar three times but he refuses.
Caesar prepares to go to the Senate. His wife, Calpurnia, begs him not to go, describing recent nightmares she has had in which see saw a statue of Caesar streamed with blood.
The conspirators including Caesar's good friend Brutus murder him.
Brutus believes the Ghost of Caesar has appeared to him on the battlefield and he believes that the time has come for him to die.
Caesar’s adopted son and appointed successor, Octavius is appointed as the new King of Rome.
We hope to see you all bright and early for the Year 4 assembly tomorrow morning!
