Key Information for Summer 1
03 Apr 2025
Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers,
We wanted to remind you of the key information for after the Easter break.
PSHE & RSE
In summer term, our PSHE has three topics: the first is called
Life Skills. This program aims to develop children’s emotional health and well-being and is delivered by their class teachers. Topics include: self-esteem, dealing with stress, assertiveness and addiction. To find out more information about this unit, please click
here.
As you might be aware, another topic is RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) and we would like to remind you of our RSE Policy which contains the contents of the course.
You can view this here.
The scheme includes lessons on conception. Each of these sessions will be taught as part of PSHE lessons by the class teacher. In Year 6, the children will watch a short animated video.
You can watch the
video on conception here - please note it may not be available to watch until after the Easter Break.
If you have any questions after watching the video, or would like your child to '
opt out' of the lesson on conception, please complete this
Google Form. If you do not complete the form, we will take this as you giving your consent to your child taking part in the lesson.
The final area we cover is Transition - this a unit of lessons around how secondary school is different from primary and how we can adapt in healthy ways for the next step.
If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your class teacher.
World War Two
We will start start our lessons on World War Two after Easter. The unit of work encompasses our Guided Reading, English (Anne Frank’s Diary) and History lessons. Due to the mature themes covered, and in light of current events, we are calling on your support in aiding the development of our children’s understanding of the world around them. Please allow space for your children to ask questions and talk through any queries or concerns they have about these units at home. This is a topic we have taught for many years and will be handled sensitively.
