Key Dates and Information for Upcoming Events in Year 6
03 Feb 2023
Friday 3rd February 2023
Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers,
As we prepare for an eventful next half-term we wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of some of the key dates coming up in Year 6.
High School Performance – Tuesday 7th February
Although it is quite short notice, we are really pleased to say that we have been invited to Highams Park to watch their production of Grease this coming Tuesday. This trip is during the school day and does not affect drop off or collection. However, as the trip will cause us to have a late lunch it is important to remind the children to bring in a healthy snack for playtime.
Farwell Miss Chureetur!
Her final day with us is Friday 10th of February, when she will be going back to university to complete her studies. She has become an invaluable member of our team, teaching lessons, leading support groups and being a wonderful role-model to our children. We thank her for all her amazing work in Year 6.
Mock SATs
After half term, we will be focussing on the Mock SATs that will take place from Monday 20th February to Friday 24th February. They give the children the chance to experience the environment of the hall or learning zone that they will attempt the actual SATs assessments in. The purpose of this is to alleviate any anxiety around SATs and to familiarise the children with the routine. We aim to make the experience as positive and supportive as possible.
We will be using the 2022 SATS tests for this week. Please ensure the children do not have access to these papers as we will use the results to assess and fill in any gaps in their learning. We will be setting homework for half-term to support the children to revise.

Easter Booster
Every Easter we offer extra classes to our Year 6 children at our Easter Booster Club. The children are invited into school during the break to take part in small targeted group sessions to reinforce their learning and to support them in preparation for their SATs in May.
The sessions are based on targets identified by their class teachers and so each child is invited in for specific timeslots. For example, this may include support or extension in Maths, Writing, Comprehension, Grammar and Spelling.
The club is led by Handsworth teachers and each day is split up into two sessions.
Morning sessions are 9.30am to 11.30am
Afternoon sessions are 12.15 to 2.15pm
Please note that your child will only be invited to the sessions which we feel will benefit them.
All children will be invited to at least one session if you register interest.
The club is free to attend.
Use this form to register your interest in this Easter's club which will run from Monday 3rd to Thursday 6th of April.
