Reception are learning about transport this term!
20 Jan 2025
Good morning everyone,
This term we are focusing on transport and how it connects us to our communities and the wider world. The children have been labelling different vehicles; building runways and traffic jams; and immersing themselves in stories and non-fiction texts about transport.
It is wonderful to see the children so enthusiastic about our topic. The London Transport Museum has been mentioned more than I can count and there is a real wealth of knowledge across the class.
Last week we looked closer to home and created maps of our journeys to school. This gave the children the opportunity to talk about their family, Highams Park and routines. It is also a great opportunity for labelling, sentence writing and drawing. You may have spotted some of these in the newsletter accompanied by a wonderful news report from Ivor.
As you may have heard the school is embarking on a new project looking at how we can make our playgrounds and lunchtimes more fun and engaging for the children. This lead to discussions about our dream playgrounds (kittens, puppies, chocolate coins mentioned alongside slides and swings) and some of our class making proposals to Mrs Nairne. We'd appreciate any input you have in response to the survey shared recently.
I hope you all have a lovely week ahead!
Ed, Taylah and Sophie
