Writing in Reception

02 Mar 2022

This term we are really making progress in our writing in Reception class!
We write when we are highly engaged in an activity which is meaningful to us.
When writing, we first say the word that we are going to write.
Then we 'pinch the sounds'. Your child will be able to show you what this means. We say each sound in the word and pinch the tip of our fingers as we say them.
Then we write down all the sounds in the word, sometimes usig a sound mat to help us remember what they look like.

Be sure to praise any writing that your child brings home or to take advantages of real life opportunities for writing as they come up at home. Your children could, for example, make shopping lists, write cards to family, write reminder notes for things they need to do.

We would love to see any writing the children do at home. Remember you can use Evidence Me to share what the children are achieving at home.
