Maths Friday 5th June - Maths Challenge

04 Jun 2020

Good morning Year 5,

Each Friday you will be attempting 'The Friday Maths Challenge'.  It is 10 questions, gradually getting more difficult.  Try as many as you can and you can then mark your answers at the end.  All 10 answers are on the final slide.  Questions 7-10 are more difficult as they are based on  Year 7 and 8 learning but you may be able to answer some.  In fact, I know you can if you take your time and try your best.   So give them a go using the Maths skills you have learnt.

Maybe you could keep a record each week and see if you can beat your previous score.

Good luck!

Thank you mr tromans. It would be helpful to have some working out in the answers, so that if we go wrong we can see where we went wrong!

Hello. I have been unable to find anything that would show this but happy to help myself if I can. Which questions would you like help with? Maybe I could email you later?

Thanks. I think it would be great to have a little video or something where you could take the students through the working. Would really help with motivation. Personally I have no idea how to approach question 5 or 7 - other than trial or error,

Thank you for your feedback. I will look into something for next week. In the meantime for question 5 I would approach it knowing that the first two numbers (units) would need to end in a 1. Eg 3 x 7 = 21. For question 7 you would need to add up the total of the takings and then divide by 55. eg 4 x £2 = £8 etc. I can call at 315pm to chat with Matthew and go through these. Will that be ok?
