Autumn homework
15 Sep 2020
Homework is important as it helps your child to practise the skills they have learnt in school. Encouraging and supporting them to complete it on time will ensure they understand everything that is being taught in lessons.
We will set Maths, Comprehension and Spellings every Thursday. This is a key part of your child’s learning and we expect it to be completed and handed in by the following Thursday. Spelling tests will also be on Thursdays.
If your child is not sure about the homework please encourage them to speak to an adult in Year 5 before Thursday. If they cannot access the internet at home, they can attend Homework Club on Tuesdays at either 1pm-1:30pm (drop-in) or 3:30pm-4:15pm (booked via the school office).
Maths homework is set weekly.
Visit www.mymaths.co.uk and login at the top of the page using your school username and password. On the next page enter your personal username and password in the My Portal box.

Comprehension homework is also set weekly through readtheory.org
Children should complete at least one task each week.
Ideally, they should work on comprehension tasks for at least 30 minutes per week, so if one task is taking less time, they can complete a number of tasks in 30 minutes.
Spellings
Here is a list of spellings for the whole of the Autumn term.
Please copy out the spellings for the correct week into your spelling book three times.
- Use the ‘Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check’ method to revise them.
- Write one interesting sentence for each word to show that you understand its meaning.
- Remember to use your best handwriting and to check your spellings and punctuation.
Return your book to school on Thursday. You will be tested each week on the words for that week.
