Welsh Fortnight.

06 Mar 2012

Welsh  Fortnight!

In Geography this term we are learning about places in the U.K. Our first area to explore is Wales which we will be learning about for the next two weeks. Being welsh myself I'm really enjoying this topic as are the children. Here are some of the things we have been learning:

We learnt how to make leeks. Ask us why Welsh people wear leeks on St David's day.

We learnt how to make daffodils. Why do welsh girls wear daffodils on St David's day?

We learnt some words and phrases in welsh. Maybe we can teach you too! How do you say 'Good morning' in Welsh? What does 'Fy enw I yw Miss Dale' mean?

We made some dragon masks and flags. We can tell you what the Welsh flag looks like?

We learnt how to pass the ball backwards ready to play rugby next week!

We made and ate Welsh cakes. They were delicious.

Here we are doing some welsh country dancing.

NEXT WEEK:
We will be holding a class 'eisteddfod' which is like a welsh version of 'The X Factor' but as well as singing children can choose to do dancing, reading a poem or a story, a short drama performance, show a collage/picture or play an instrument. Please note this is JUST FOR FUN and children only take part if they want to. I will be filming it and 'trying' to put it on the website for you to see. We can't wait, we've been practising already!

On the week beginning the 19th of March we will be learning about Ireland (to tie in with St Patrick's Day). If you can help with this in anyway we'd love your support! If you are passionate about Ireland and would like to run an activity that would be great!!
