Capacity in 1RE

11 Jun 2014

We have been looking at capacity in Maths.  We have been thinking about what capacity means and juding if something is full, half full, half empty, nearly full, nearly empty and empty.

We also experimented with a range of containers to find out if they all had the same capacity.  Some of us thought if a container was tall and narrow it would hold more than a container that was short and wide.  Apperances can be deceiving!

We also applied our understanding of capacity to solve problems for example, how many cups of water would it take to fill a sink.

You can practise solving similar problems at home!

Here are some pictures of us busy at work using rice to fill a range of containers to different capacities.
