Phonics support at home

17 May 2023

Hello Friends,

As you know, phonics is an important part of your child's journey in reading and writing. Learning the correspondences between letters and sounds, and learning to blend these to read words and segment them to spell wordsis a very important part of their learning in Reception and beyond. Understanding phonics well will be key to so much of your child's academic success.

Your child will take part in phonics lessons every day at school and you can support this learning at home. You can use these videos to reinforce their learning. Please bookmark this page on your devices so you can pull it up when you need it. It is saved under the 'Homework' tab on our class website.

Some ways you might want to use these videos

Each thumbnail is labelled with the sound. Clicking on the thumbnail will take you to a video lesson just like the ones we teach at school.

- Want to reinforce their basic phonics understanding?  Take a video a night and watch it before reading time to reinforce sounds. Start from the beginning of Set 1.

- Have you noticed a sound that your child struggled to read in their book? Find the video for some practise.

- Is your child super keen to learn new sounds? If they are secure in set 1 and 2, by all means plough on with set 3!

As ever, if you have any questions, please come and chat to us. We love talking about phonics!
