Handsworth Foodbank Collection 2020
16 Dec 2020
Dear Handsworth,
I'd like to begin by thanking you all very, very much for your extraordinary kindness at the end of what's been a very challenging year for all of us. With everything that's happened around the world throughout this past year, it would have been very easy to overlook the problems in our local community, but you responded to the request for Foodbank donations with your customary generosity and we collected more food this year than ever before.
Cans - 489
Jars - 56
Bottles - 49
Boxes - 64
Packets - 87
Total - 745 items!
Miss Addai was, as ever, extremely understanding and allowed me to store your donations in her office and even though we struggled for space at times, it allowed me to sort everything into the boxes and crates the Foodbank kindly loaned to us.
Early yesterday morning I went up to All Saints Church just to check they were ready to receive your donations and the people who run the Foodbank said I could take some photos so you could see what it's like inside.
Inside the main room at the Foodank there are lots of volunteers who get the food ready for people who need it and in a small room at the back there are other people who receive the donations and sort them all into different categories.
At half past one, I went with Dale and Miss O'Connor up to the Foodbank and we started unloading Dale's car and taking your donations inside.
We had to make two separate trips to deliver all the food and the people who work at the Foodbank were so amazed at how much you donated, they made a special video to say thank you!
So that's the story of the Handsworth Foodbank collection for 2020. Thank you once again for your extraordinary kindness and generosity this year; you have made an enormous difference to the lives of hundreds of people in our local area.
Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year!
