Friday 16th October – International Day

14 Oct 2026

Friday 16th October – International Day

On Friday, we’ll celebrate International Day, focusing on something we love. Playing!

It’s a chance to learn about different cultures, discover how children around the world play and have fun, and share a little of what makes our own families special.

What can children wear?

Children are invited to wear their own clothes to celebrate their culture or heritage. This could be traditional clothing, colours or patterns that are meaningful to their family, or something inspired by a country that’s important to them.

As we’ll also have PE on Friday, please ensure your child is either wearing a costume that is appropriate for P.E or wears their P.E kit underneath their costume.

What will Year 1 be doing?

In the build-up to International Day, we’ll be learning about traditional games from the Philippines and India. On the day, we’ll play these games and learn about different cultures.

In the afternoon, we’ll join Year 5 to teach them our games and learn and play a game with them in return. This will be a great opportunity for the children to share their learning and learn alongside older pupils.

Can children bring anything in?

Children are encouraged to bring a small game, toy, photograph or book linked to their culture or a family tradition to share with the class. Please label items with your child’s name and ensure they're suitable for school. Please leave anything valuable or fragile at home.

Help us create our class playlist! 🎵

We’d love to include music that reflects the cultures and traditions of our families. Please leave a comment to this post with a song suggestion or let your class teacher know, including the song title and artist, so we can add suitable songs to our class playlist.

We’re looking forward to sharing, playing and learning together as we celebrate the different cultures that make our school community so special.

If you have any questions or things you wish to share, please do let us know.

With kindness,

Year One Team
