Year 5 - Mr Dawes Home

 
In History we have been looking at Crime and Punishment throughout the ages. 

As a class we participated in three court cases. We set up the classroom to depict a courtroom and had the task of finding out whether or not a person was innocent or guilty for the crime they had allegedly committed. Each case (scenario provided) we were given a new role to play.

We had a bailiff, judge, group of plaintiffs (modern day British punishers) and defendants (Anglo-Saxon punishers) and a jury. Each team provided the judge and jury with a point each and from that the jury had to draw a conclusion as to which group/punishment they should support. It was the jury’s duty to listen to the points the plaintiffs and defendants made in order to decide if they thought the accused was innocent or guilty. If they could not decide it was up to the judge to have the final sentence choice and that would decide the fate of accused.
