Growth Mindset
12 Jan 2019
This year so far, we have been learning about and discussing how do be kind, considerate and positive people. Whilst we will continue this, we will also be starting a new topic this term, Growth Mindset.
Last Monday we started discussing what a growth and fixed mindset is. We read the book ‘I can’t do that, YET!’ which is about a girl called Enna who doesn't believe in herself and often utters the phrase "I can't do that!". One night in a dream she sees all the possible future versions of herself, discovering that she can be any of those versions with time, knowledge and dedication. She develops a growth mindset throughout her journey and instead of saying "I can't do that," she learns to say "I can't do that YET!
This led to discussions about how we need to stop saying that we can’t do something (fixed mindset), change our mindset and start saying ‘I will learn to do this, mistakes help me improve, I can do anything I put my mind to, this may take me some time and effort and I will learn how to do this’ just to name a few. Over the coming weeks we will participating in games, activities and discussions to help us learning about this topic.
On Monday 14th January, we talked about our goals, how we can achieve them and why it is important to set goals.
