Converting to an Academy Status
22 Apr 2013
As Handsworth is a good school with outstanding features, we are in a position to consider converting to an academy. We are investigating whether it would be in the interest of Handsworth School, its pupils, staff and wider community to convert to academy status. Highams Park Secondary school has already converted and we want to continue to forge strong relationships with them. Our initial reasons for investigating this option are:
-
to maintain our vision and values
-
to maintain and build on our high standards
-
that the financial advantages will directly benefit our pupils (we currently receive the lowest per-pupil funding of any school in Waltham Forest)
-
more autonomy to develop and progress the curriculum
-
to have more control over pressure on class sizes
If the Governing Body decides to progress further, there will be a formal consultation period during this Summer term. We are in the early stages of investigation and, as important stakeholders within our school community, we would value your thoughts on the school website questionnaire.
