Bike registration form
21 May 2014
The police have asked that we link the following Bike registration form to parents. The Safer Transport Team at Waltham Forest want to reduce cycle theft, increase the amount of stolen cycles recovered and improve the way we initially investigate such matters. Cycle theft is made difficult for Police to investigate as very few bikes are added to security sites e.g.,
www.bikeregister.co.uk or security marked by Police.
Officers from Waltham Forest Safer Transport Command have therefore decided to set up a borough based index in order to record bike details. This should allow Police to trace bikes if they are stolen more efficiently.
I am writing to ask you to please note down the details of all the bikes within your household. Details will be entered onto Police intelligence systems and stored for frame searching purposes only. Please ensure you sign the bottom of this form to authorise this.
A serial number check allows Police, when stopping and checking bikes, to make sure that the bike is in the possession of the rightful owner. If not an investigation can be started. If police were to find your bike they can check the frame number and using the contact details you provide confirm that it should be in possession of the person police have stopped or not as the case may be.
