Maths in 3RT
25 Apr 2014
This week in Maths we have been trying out lots of mental maths games. The children have had great fun in playing them and lots of success using their mathematical brains.
What was your favourite?
Which one do you want to improve on?
What Maths skills were you working on while playing these games?
How can you make them more challenging?
Guess the number:
Player one writes a number between 0 and 100 on a post it and player two has to guess the number by asking a number of strategic questions. How quickly did you guess the number?
Flippy Flappy Fingers:
Each player chooses a number to show with their fingers and thumbs. They both show their hands after 3 seconds. The first person who says the correct total of fingers and thumbs showing wins the point. How fast were you?
Number line:
Player one rolls two dice. Using the numbers thrown you can make two numbers (if both numbers are the same only one number can be made). Choose one of the numbers and place it on a number line. Now Player two has a go and does the same. The first to get 3 numbers in a row on the line is the winner. Can you block your opponent and win? Try 5 numbers in a row if you like.
What other games did we play?
All these games are easy to play. Tell a friend or a family member and see if you can beat them.
Think of ways to make these games more challenging to play and write these below.
