Spring Term 2
Our topic this half term is: People Who Help Us
We hope you had a great New Year! The children have come back full of enthusiasm and raring to go.
Literacy and Maths
This term we are focussing on non-fiction texts about people who help us and traditional tales, including stories from different cultures. If you have any favourites that you would like to share with us please send them in with your child. With regards to our topic, if any of you are a fire fighter, nurse, police officer, vet etc or know of anyone who is, it would be great if you could come in and talk to the children about what you do. Please let your class teacher know.
In Literacy we will also be listening to and reading lots of poetry. We will be looking at rhyme, rhythm and the shape of a poem.
In our maths the children will be continuing to recognise and write numbers, including simple addition and subtraction sums, partitioning and estimating. They will be naming and describing 2D and 3D shapes, and will be doing lots of practical activities involving positioning, measuring and weighing. What shapes can your child see in their house, at the shops or in the park? Why not take some photos or bring them in to school so that we can put them on our shape table.
Reading Book and Key Words
The children are really enjoying practising their reading so thank you for remembering to make sure that the children have their reading books with them everyday. Thank you for your comments in their reading records as these have been very helpful. Please don’t forget to sign the white record book otherwise books cannot be changed. The children have done extremely well with their phonics and they are now learning diagraphs (two letters). The sheets that are being sent home have a selection of words containing our new sounds of the day. Why not write some simple sentences using these words and send them in to school for your child to share with the class?
We have now sent home Key Word Sheet 3 and the children are doing very well. It is very important that these key words are practised as often as possible. It really does make a difference to their reading and writing. We are well on the way to learning the 45 key words that the children will be expected to know by the time they leave Reception!
PE
The PE times are still the same.
RIL- PE days will be on Tuesday and Friday
RHW- PE days will be Tuesday and Thursday
Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit, including suitable shoes, in school in a clearly labelled bag.
Dressing Up
A big thank you to those of you who have kindly donated unwanted dressing up clothes. The children have really enjoyed dressing up and role playing in these. We are always in need of dressing up clothes and will gladly take them off your hands!.
Cooking
We would like to start a weekly Wednesday cooking session with both Reception classes. If you fancy yourself as bit of a chef please let the teachers know!
Junk
Please continue to save junk material. We are particularly looking for kitchen roll tubes yoghurt pots, small boxes and egg cartons, old catalogues, magazines and newspapers. These can be put straight into the white boxes outside Mrs Lucas’ class.
Thank you
Miss Walter Mrs Lucas
