Equality Information and Objectives Statement
Our Equalities information will be published in our School Prospectus and via our website for those within the school community.
Aim:
To eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, Victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act
Information:
Our Student Social worker runs lunchtime drop-ins where pupils can share any concerns. Two lunchtime clubs provide additional opportunity for pupils to participate in to discuss friendship/issues with others and conflict resolution. Pastoral mentors support identified pupils. Racist Incidents are investigated and followed up with pupils and parents and reported to the Governors and Local Authority. We have an anti-bullying policy which is followed and reviewed on an annual basis. (Objective: to develop an anti-bullying policy developed and written by pupils, running parent and pupil workshops.)
Advance equality of opportunity between pupils who share a protected characteristic and those who do not. We monitor data closely to ensure no group of pupils are underachieving. Rigorous pupil progress monitoring helps ensure that effective provision is in place to support all learners, including pupils with disabilities. Pupil premium is also used to support identified pupils. We work closely with stakeholders to evaluate the work of the school and prepare the School Development Plan. These groups include Staff, Pupils and School Council, Parent Class reps, Governors. Equality objectives are integrated into the schools policies and practice.
We foster positive relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those that do not. Our Creative Curriculum and SEAL assemblies provide regular opportunities for pupils to learn about different cultures, faiths and communities, thus help foster a tolerance and celebration of diversity and difference. We participate in Initiatives such as ‘RESPECT’, fundraising for national/international charities. Projects with our local school for pupils with visual impairment. Our current school focus relates to the 4 C’s. These are: Care, Courtesy, Consideration, and Co-operation. To support the ethos of holistic SMSC (Social, Moral, Spiritual, and Cultural) development.
Objectives:
To raise standards in higher level Writing. Our recent data shows us that standards need to improve further in higher level Writing. We have invested in quality CPD, Big Write and formative marking to help raise standards further. We continue to develop skills in basic maths through maths challenges, chess clubs, and maths maths challenege clubs.
To continue to foster positive relations with under-represented groups. We work closely with parents and multi agencies to ensure that our pupils with statements of special needs and disabilities develop in independence, confidence and ability. We have developed strong links with our local school for pupils with Visual Impairment and run weekly projects. Our curriculum continues to evolve to celebrate cultural diversity.
