Week beginning 10.6.2013
12 Jun 2013
Literacy:
This week we started reading ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’. We discussed how we would feel if we lived in the hot, dry village. We also discussed what we might say to the sky if we wanted it to rain. We then re-told the story using drama and props created in art. Can you tell someone at home what the story is all about?
We also learnt how to add detail to a story.
To help consolidate this, can you make my boring sentence below more interesting, by adding detail? Have a go! Log on and writing the improved sentence in the comment box below.
Lila was sad.
Numeracy:
This week we have been adding two 2-digit numbers together mentally e.g. 57 + 36 = 93
Try the following websites to consolidate this:

History:
In history this week we researched 'The Great Fire of London’ in more detail. We discussed Samuel Pepys and how he re-told the story to others and that’s how we know about it today. We talked about how stories change as they get passed along from one person to the next and how reliable the story may be now.
There are some good activities on ‘Purple Mash’ related to ‘The Great Fire of London’. You can write a diary entry as Samuel and re-tell the story yourself to see how accurate you can be.
You could also try playing ‘Chinese Whispers’ to see how accurately you can pass a message on to others and how good your listening is (you may need rather a lot of people for this though.

Please share any new facts you discover. You can do this by logging into the school website and writing the fact in the comment box below. I look forward to reading them!
