Week beginning 4.2.2013

Week beginning 4.2.13

Literacy -
We have been learning how to write our own fairy tale thinking about good openers, adjectives and punctuation to use to interest the reader. We've also been talking about how important the order of our words are when writing sentences. If we get our words muddles up, our sentences no longer make sense.

Try this fantastic website to practise sentence writing:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks1/literacy/making_sentences/play/

I
f this is too easy try the Key Stage 2 version on the following website:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/english/spelling_grammar/  and go to 'sentences'.

The following Website may help with the stories you are planning at home:

http://resources.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/interactive/text.htm#2

There is also a video on the KS2 website which helps with story planning. It is for older children though so bare in mind this will be more challenging. Here's the link:

Miss Dales maths class:
We have been learning about angles this week. We have been learning right angles, obtuse (larger than a right angle) and acute (smaller than a right angle) angles, quarter turn = 1 right angle, half turn = 2 right angles, the clock hand turning from 12 to 3 = 1 right angle and the different angles in different shapes. We've also been giving directions such as forwards, backwards, left, right, clockwise, anti-clockwise, turn 1 right angle clockwise, half turn anti-clockwise etc. Some of us have also learnt that a right angle is the same as 90 degrees and half a right angle is 45 degrees.

I could not find any internet games to practise this but give this question a try:

Can you think of others like this e.g. guiding you friend to a door?

We've also discussed 'regular' (meaning e.g. a pentagon with all the sides the same length and 'irregular' (meaning a shape with 5 sides but different lengths) shapes.

Science -
We are learning about variation. Give the following website a go. It will re-cap on a few things we have done this week as well as prepare you for next week:

Handwriting - we are now learning to join our letters. This may help some children with where to start their letters. This week we have been looking at joining 'e' and 'a' to long ladder letters e.g. at and eet
Words we have been practising include cat, mat, rat, sweet, sheet, sleet. Children should be able to write these words without taking their pencil off the paper (unless to cross a t at the end).
