Year 2 Literacy homework.

08 May 2013

Homework for the week beginning 6.5.13

Literacy:
This week we have been reading the book ‘Meerkat Mail’ which includes postcards written by the main character, Sunny. Sunny travels the world, visiting different relatives, in search of the perfect place. The children made their own post cards of their favourite place/holiday and wrote on it to describe the lovely things they had been doing, seeing, eating and feeling.

Please log in to ‘purple mash’ below and create your own ‘virtual’ postcard from your favourite place. Be sure to save your work, as we can then open it in school and print it off or show the rest of the class!

To begin, click on the link below:

Click on ‘Login’ which is a purple tab on the upper right hand side of the website. It has a picture of a key on it. Type in the username – handsworth@2simple  and the password – handsworth.
On the home page scroll down until you see ‘write a postcard’.

Click on ‘write a postcard’ and scroll down to the subheading ‘Places’.
Choose your favourite holiday destination and click on it. Press ‘play’, on the video, to watch a small video of your chosen destination (for some extra ideas). When you are ready press ‘ok’ and off you go!!!

There are some tabs which offer pieces of advice to help structure your work. You can move these to the side.

Click the arrow at the bottom of the page to turn the postcard around and choose the image you want to use for the front of your post card.

When you’re ready to save, click the save button that looks like a blue floppy disk, at the top of the page. Click on the ‘Year 2 postcards’ folder on the left hand side. Write your name in the blank box and press ‘yes’.  We will then be able to open your folder in school and take a look at the wonderful work you’ve done at home.

Later in the week we went on to research different holiday destinations and we will use this information create and record travel documentaries,  write travel brochures, write tourist leaflets, create tourism posters, create pop-up books and lots lots more next week. If you find out any more, or have any other information you would like to bring in to share about holidays or holiday destination we would love to hear all about it!

If you have any questions please feel free to come and see me.

Best Wishes,

Miss Dale
