Beth Billington
My career to date has been committed to working within primary education, from: Teacher to Deputy Head and now Consultant Headteacher. My role has enabled me to work across Primary and Special Schools, focusing on strategy, vision and successful outcomes for all.

I have a strong interest in governance and understand the important role that it has; both support and challenge. As a mum of two and new to the local community, I have a greater understanding of being on both sides; parent and teacher and would like to use this to support Handsworth Primary School on their journey.

I am a parent of a pupil in Year 2 who has attended since nursery. I have lived in the area for most of my life. I am committed to education (being a local Headteacher) and would like to offer my knowledge and service to the school and its governing body. I have worked in large state schools in the area. I have extensive knowledge of Early Years through to A Level curriculum, SEND and Safeguarding. I believe that happy, supported children can and will achieve.  I love long distance running and swimming.

Katherine Buckee
I am mum to Henry, James and George.   I am passionate about helping to support Handsworth and for the last five years I have been an active member of the Friends of Handsworth team helping to organise the Christmas and Summer Fetes.

In my professional life, I am a Senior Director at Verizon Media.  I have over 20 years experience in managing large digital partnerships and maximising revenue and partnership opportunities.

Handsworth is a fantastic school with wonderful children and staff, I would love to offer my skills and enthusiasm to help support the school community further.

About Me
  • My wife and I are parents to three lovely girls, the eldest of which has recently started in year one.
  • I have lived in Highams Park my whole life and I’m proud to say that I attended Handsworth Primary School.
  • I am a Chartered Building Surveyor specialising in Project Management.

Why I’ve Volunteered
  • Effective governance is essential to drive improvement and maintain standards and I would be proud to work as part of the team that ensures every child receives the best possible education within an environment which takes their wellbeing and specific needs into consideration.

I have children in year 1 and pre-school. Working in television I could bring creative and practical thinking to this role. I’m approachable and analytical - I like deconstructing problems and fixing things.

I’m dedicated to the idea that children should get a sense of boundless possibilities and be given innovative opportunities, so as to awaken their individual abilities and passions.

I would be committed, where appropriate, to questioning the school on key decisions that impact on the learning experience and happiness of my and your children and believe I could effectively communicate the thoughts and feelings of the parents.

Simon Barnes
Hi everyone, I’m Simon. I am a new Handsworth parent as my son has just started reception. As a resident of Highams Park for over 10 years, I am keen to see the area and our school continue to flourish and give every child the chance to succeed and grow. Working as the Vice President of Engineering for a software company and studying for my MBA give me great experience in working with boards and the governance process. Technology is my passion and I am keen to contribute to our children having every opportunity in this growing digital world.
