English - Monday 22 June

22 Jun 2020

Good Morning Year 6!

For the next few weeks, I am going to give you a different writing task to complete each week.

Lesson one: developing ideas from a stimulus

This week's stimulus is a short animated film called The Lighthouse.

While you are watching the video, think about the following questions:
  • When the lighhousekeeper slams the window shut at the start, what do you think are his thoughts about the people outside having fun?
  • How do you think the villagers feel when the light goes out?
  • What is going through his head when he falls and breaks the light? What about the people on the boat?
  • How does the creator build up the tension in the film?
In preparation for your writing task, do some research on lighthouses and lighthousekeepers.
Think about:
  • - Where are lighthouses built? Why?
  • - What are they made of?
  • - How do they work?
  • - What kind of person might become a lighthousekeeper?
