Number Bonds to 10, 20 and 100.
This week we have been learning number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. Knowing number bonds to 10 can be very helpful when trying to add bigger numbers. In school we teach adding using the number line method and so fast recollection of number bonds to 10 is essential e.g.
14 + 8 =
First we identify what to add to 14 to get to the next tens number (which in this case is 20)
then we add the remaining 2 to the 20 = 22.
This is the same for larger additions e.g.
57 + 36 =
Adding in this way mean knowing what to add to a number to make 10 is important and when you come to adding 100's numbers, knowing what to add to a number to make 100 is also important.
Hit the button - a website game - is very good practise for this as it encourages fast recall of numbers bonds to 10, 20 and 100.
