Year 5 at Epping Forest

19 Jul 2015

Year 5 had a fabulous day out at
Epping Forest Field Studies Centre.

Both classes were mixed up
and everyone had sessions
on Map Reading and Survival.

Here we are learning about map references.
We also learnt how to plot co-ordinates on a map.

In the forest we practiced how to read compasses.
 Our lives depended on it!

We followed compass references and clues
to find our way round the forest.
Our reward?
Lunch!

 We also learnt about survival.
Each team had a chant, a dance and facepaints!
We played games to find out
what we would need to survive
in the forest overnight.
We practiced building a shelter for a mouse.
Blue team built the best one!

We then built shelters for ourselves
and really got stuck in!

 Co-incidentally we found a newt
in one of the shelters, and recalled lots of facts
about them from our science lessons.

 Back to school...
Thanks to the great staff at Epping Forest.
Thanks to the bus driver who saved the day ...
And big thanks to our volunteers - without you, the day couldn't have happened!
HAPPY
DAYS!
