Summer Term First Half Newsletter

15 Apr 2013

Year 4 Newsletter Summer First Half 2013
What have the Romans ever done for us?

Welcome back. We hope that you all had a super Easter break.
Please log onto the website (under the curriculum tab) for the summer overview.
We have an exciting term ahead, exploring The Romans in History including visits to The British Museum, The Museum of London and a Roman day. (Details to follow)

To start our topic off in style, on Thursday 18th April, we will be visited by Dr Liz Gloyn, who is a teaching Fellow in Latin Literature and Classic and Ancient History at the University of Birmingham. She will be introducing us to Latin and the Romans.

The Roman theme will continue across the curriculum in our art and DT sessions, where we will be making Roman pots, mosaics and even cooking. In writing and ICT, we will be extending our Roman topic. In science we will be exploring how we move and grow. In music, we will be listening to and performing music that creates moods.

In PE this term, Mrs Farrier will be taking the children for athletics on Monday afternoon (both classes). Please ensure that your child has suitable clothing (warm leggings/sweatshirt and proper trainers or plimsolls that fit).

Homework this term will include - Home reading books- changed daily for 4JL and Mondays and Tuesdays for 4AG/HS (please ensure the diary has been signed).

Spellings will go home weekly (Friday 4JL/Monday 4AG/HS). These will be tested the following week.
A full list of the term’s spellings can be found on the website under the homework tab.

Accompanying the spellings will be literacy related exercises which should be returned the following week.

Maths homework will be given out on Fridays to be completed and returned by the next Thursday.

Please see us at the end of the day if you need to discuss anything with us.
AD ASPERA AD ASTRA
Optimus optat fabulosa et externis term
