Autumn Newsletter 2012

11 Sep 2012

Year 4 Autumn Term 2012 Newsletter

A very warm welcome to everyone involved in Year 4.

We have an action packed 1st half term ~ and are starting with a BANG for the first seven days.
As a school we will be basing all our work on a painting by Karel Appel.
There will be an exhibition in the large hall showcasing all our efforts on Friday 21st September after school.  Please do come along if you are free!

Now that Handsworth are implementing a Creative Curriculum, in year 4 we will be linking a number of subject areas through our topic this term on ‘The Victorians’
These will include English, Art, RE, DT, Music and a school visit to Vestry House Museum on 27th September.

In addition to this:
In Science we will be studying the effects of Friction this half term.
In Maths, areas of study will include place value up to at least 1000, data handling, decimals and fractions, using calculators, plus calculating, measuring and understanding shape.

Other dates for your diary:
Parents’ Orientation Meeting
~ Thursday 20th September at 9 a.m. in the main hall.
Parents’ Evenings
        ~ Tuesday 23rd and Thursday 25th October.

PE days are:
Monday ~ Street Dance
Wednesday ~ Multi-skills

Homework:
Maths homework will be sent home on Fridays to be returned by the following Thursday.
Spellings will be set weekly and tested a week later.
~ Year 4 AG/HS each Monday
~ Year 4 LF each Friday
Reading Books will be changed through the week and each group will have a specific day when books are changed. (Books can only be changed when parents have signed the Home-School Diary to say that the book has been read, shared and discussed.)

As always, you are very welcome to speak to us after school.
If you feel you need a longer time to talk, please ring the office in advance to arrange an appointment.

All best wishes for a brilliant start to year 4,
Ms Soar, Mrs Green and Mrs Leftwich
