Year 4 Spring Newsletter First Half Term 2017

Happy New Year to you all. We hope that you all had a fabulously fun, relaxing and welcome holiday and are now ready for the next dynamic and exciting half term in Year 4. We would all like to say a huge thank you for all the lovely presents you so kindly bought for us.

This term, our Creative Curriculum topic is titled River Deep Mountain High.
This theme will cover all manner of subjects.
In English, we are linking our learning to our geography unit this term. We will be studying a non-fiction text, ‘A Pebble in my Pocket’ and a persuasive text, ‘Where The Forest Meets The Sea’. We will continue to work on grammar, punctuation and improving our handwriting skills.
For an overview of the Maths we will be covering this term, please see the uploaded file on our webpage.
In Science, we will be learning about Living in Environments. This will enable us to recognise that living things can be grouped in a variety of ways and to explore their local and wider environments.
In Geography, we will be learning about the formation and features of a river and follow its journey to the sea. We will also become enthusiastic mountain experts. We will be locating the highest peaks, identifying mountain ranges, researching key facts about them and creating our own 3D mountain models and presentations to share our expertise.
In RE.  we will be discovering why Hindus worship at home and at a Mandir.
In Art, the children will be continuing to work with Ms Blackborow. This will be linked to our Geography unit and we shall be exploring River Art and making mountains. This will enhance our 3D modelling skills.
In Music, we will be linking to our Geography unit to create our own River music and dance.
PE: As PE lessons will take place both outdoors and indoors, please ensure that your child has a suitable kit (jogging bottoms/leggings, separate sweatshirt/jacket and plimsolls/trainers) in school every week..

As last term, spellings will be sent home on Friday for a test the following Friday.
Maths homework will go home on Friday to be returned the following Friday.
A Maths homework group will start on Tuesday lunchtimes 12-45-1.15 this term. Please do encourage your child to come along if they need some help with their tasks.
Reading books will continue to be changed on the same days as before, when they have been signed in the home school diary.
Please ensure that you read, share and discuss the books with your child.

Do have a look at the year group class pages on our school website regularly to celebrate the children’s learning and work.
As always, you are very welcome to speak to us after school. If you feel you need a longer time to talk, please ring the school office in advance to arrange an appointment.
Best wishes for another fabulous term.
The Year 4 Team.
