Year 4 Newsletter Autumn Term 2nd Half

23 Nov 2016

Year 4 Newsletter Autumn Term 2nd Half.
What Have The Romans Ever Done For Us?
Welcome back to another dynamic half term in Year 4.
In RE, we are continuing to learn about Roman Religion and Gods and will exploring some of the festivals that will be happening this half term.
In Science we will be studying Eating and Digestion, how it all works, eating a balanced diet and keeping our teeth healthy.
For Maths, please refer to the overview on the website. Please do help your child to learn all of their times tables and the corresponding division facts.
In English, we will be working on Non-fiction recounts for newspaper reports and practising our journalistic skills, for example, note-taking, finding information, creating interesting headlines and using both direct and reported speech. We will also be writing our own powers which create images for the reader.
In Geography, we are continuing to improve our mapping skills.
In Art, children are continuing to work with Ms Blackborow, where they will be improving their colour mixing skills, drawing skills where they will explore using light lines, drawing from observation and taking inspiration from the drawings of Leonardo da Vinci.
Dates for your diary:
Parents Evenings Tuesday 15th November  and Wednesday 16th November (see website for times)
Monday 19th December (4AG) and Tuesday 20th December (4SW)
Trip to the British Library for a workshop on Maps of the 20th Century. Further details will be sent out in separate letter. There will be no cost for this trip, however, it is essential that permission slips are returned.
Just to remind you, PE days are the same as last term:
Swimming in 4SG will finish on Wednesday 23rd November.

Homework: As last half term:
Maths homework will be sent home on Fridays to be returned by the following Friday.
Spellings will be set weekly and tested a week later. We have changed the spelling groups and names around based on the children’s recent assessments.
Reading Books: Books can only be changed when parents have signed the Home-School Diary to say that the book has been read, shared and discussed.

As always, you are very welcome to speak to us after school.
If you feel you need a longer time to talk, please ring the office in advance to arrange an appointment.
All best wishes for another brilliant half term.
The Year 4 Team
