Year 4 Newsletter Autumn Term 2nd Half.

20 Nov 2015

Year 4 Newsletter Autumn Term 2nd Half.
Welcome back to another dynamic half term in Year 4. As you know we have already had two wonderful trips where the children were able to handle artefacts and had a Victorian style ragged school lesson, giving them a real insight into the lives of Victorian people.

We are continuing with our Victorian theme until the end of term. This will include English, where we will be working on stories with historical settings, (Climbing in the Dark, by Nick Warburton and A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens) and creating our own newspaper reports. We will also be reading a range of Charles Dickens books during Guided Reading sessions, Hard Times, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, Bleak House and Oliver Twist.

In Art we are working on Victorian-style silhouettes and then designing and making a Victorian-style decoupage Christmas card.

In RE, we will be exploring the Christmas journeys taken by the main Characters in the Nativity story.

In music, we are going to be looking at some Gilbert and Sullivan compositions to link in with our Victorian theme.

In Science we will be studying Eating and Digestion, how it all works, eating a balanced diet and keeping our teeth healthy.

In Maths, areas of study will include adding several multiples of 10 or 100, Time on analogue and digital, am/pm, recognising fractions and mixed numbers and recalling multiplication and deriving division facts. Please do help your child to learn all of their times tables.
