Year 4 Autumn Newsletter 2nd Half term

Welcome back to another dynamic half term in Year 4. As you know we have already had a wonderful trip to The William Morris Gallery. It was a very successful trip and the children really enjoyed seeing the pictures they have been studying over the past half term.
Thank you again to the parents who so generously gave up their time to accompany us.

We are continuing with our Victorian theme up till the end of this term in our different subjects. These will include English - we will be working on stories with historical settings, Art, DT, and Music.
In RE, we will be looking at why the Birth of Jesus is significant for Christians.
In Science we will be looking at keeping warm and the effects of heating and cooling.
In Maths, areas of study will include adding several multiples of 10 or 100, time on analogue and digital, am/pm, recognising fractions and mixed numbers, recalling multiplication facts for 2,3,4,5 and 10 x tables and deriving division facts.
Dates for your diary:

Year 4 Assembly for Parents and Victorian Day:

~ Thursday 22nd  November at 9 a.m. in the main hall.

Pantomime at Hackney Empire
- Monday 3rd December
KS2 Carol Concert
This will take place outside in the playground at 1.45pm on Friday 21st December, so wrap up warmly!

Just to remind you, PE days are the same as last term:
Monday ~ Street Dance
Tuesday ~ Multi-skills JL
Wednesday ~ Multi-skills HS/AG

As last half term:
Maths homework will be sent home on Fridays to be returned by the following Thursday.
Literacy: In 4JL, I will be giving out literacy homework this term in response to requests on Parents’ evening. This is to be handed in with Numeracy homework.
Spellings will be set weekly and tested a week later.
~ Year 4 AG/HS each Monday
~ Year 4 JL each Friday
Reading Books will be changed through the week and each group will have a specific day when books are changed. (Books can only be changed when parents have signed the Home-School Diary to say that the book has been read, shared and discussed.)

As always, you are very welcome to speak to us after school.
If you feel you need a longer time to talk, please ring the office in advance to arrange an appointment.

Best wishes for another brilliant half term.
