Summer 2

19 Jun 2012

Hello and welcome back to our final six weeks in Year 4!  I hope you have all had a restful and enjoyable half term celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee.  We certainly had a great time at our whole school tea party at the end of last half term.  (See website for pictures).  A big thanks to all those who helped out on the day to make it such a success.  Last half term was a busy one, with our WOW Day and preparations for our Year 4 assembly taking place.  We had a fantastic day learning all about the Vikings and dressing up.  Thanks to all the parents who helped out on the day, for arranging all the equipment we needed and for sorting out those amazing costumes!   The children looked wonderful!  (Again see website for more pictures).   This week we spent a morning watching the story of Julius Ceasar, performed by Shakespeare actor, Anthony Glenn.  Following this, the whole of Year 4 were treated to a drama workshop, which they really enjoyed!  (See website for photos and more info.)

What We Are Learning To do

Numeracy….During this half term we will be consolidating our learning from this year and
completing our assessments next week.  We will be focusing on Diagrams finishing with fractions and

Literacy … In Literacy we will be focusing on our writing techniques in order to prepare for our end of year assessments next week.  Once these are all done and dusted we will be learning about Viking Sagas and writing our own versions.  Following this we will be focusing on stories that raise issues for dilemmas for our final few weeks.  Some useful websites for English language skills:

Science … Children will be focusing on ‘Moving and Growing’ topic linking in nicely with the
Olympics, strength and our termly topic ‘Power in your hands’.  Useful websites to support this

History … Carrying on with our ‘Invaders and Settlers’ topic, children will focus on the Vikings this term.  Our WOW day formed a wonderful introduction to this new history topic.   Websites to support this topic:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryhistory/vikings/ and Horrible Histories clips on Youtube.
Important Information …   Homework

Well done to those who consistently hand in their homework weekly. Unfortunately we have recently had a number of problems with handing in homework on time or homework that is incomplete. Therefore, we will now be starting up homework club during Wednesday lunchtimes 1- 1:15 pm. If homework is not handed in or is incomplete your child will need to attend homework club that week. Homework is an
important part of your child’s learning and helps them to transfer skills and consolidate what they have used in the week independently, so please support us in getting it completed and handed in on time.
Important Dates for your diary!

KS2 sports Day—26th June.    Your child will need to wear the colour of their corresponding house (e.g. green t-shirt and shorts if they are in Green house). Parents are welcome to come to watch we will begin at 9:30 on Highams Park School Field and we should finish by 12:15 p.m.
