Year 4 Spring Newsletter Second Half Term 2017

Welcome back! We hope you all had a brilliant half term holiday and the children are raring to go with their learning.

We are continuing with our theme of River Deep, Mountain High for the rest of this term.
In English, we will be studying performance poetry and playscripts.  We will be looking at the work of the award-winning poet, Joseph Coelho for our inspiration.
As previously, for the overview of the Maths we will be covering this term, please see the uploaded file on our webpage.
In Science, we will be continuing to learn about habitats and our trip at the end of term will consolidate our learning. Science Week begins on Friday 10th March and concludes on Friday 17th March. We will be participating in a range of scientific activities involving “Wheels”.

In Geography, we will be continuing to learn about the formation and features of a river and follow its journey to the sea. We will also become enthusiastic mountain experts by journeying to the Kumaon region of India and learn about the life of a Kumaon child. We will find out about the fascinating Kumaon region and the tallest peaks of the Himalayas. We will also compare this region to our own as we develop our learning.

In RE.  we will be talking about Lent and Easter.
In Art, the children will be continuing to work with Ms Blackborow. This will be linked to our Geography unit and we shall be looking at famous paintings which include rivers and ponds.

In Music, we will be linking to our Geography unit to create our own River music and dance. We will also be learning a song for our Sing Up Day at the end of March.

PE lessons will take place both outdoors and indoors, please ensure that your child has a suitable kit (jogging bottoms/leggings, separate sweatshirt/jacket and plimsolls/trainers) in school every week.

As last term, spellings will be sent home on Friday for a test the following Friday.
Maths homework will go home on Friday to be returned the following Friday.
Reading books will continue to be changed on the same days as before, when they have been signed in the home school diary. Please ensure that you read, share and discuss the books with your child.

Dates for your diary:
Parents Evening: Tuesday 14th March and Wednesday 15th March.
School trip to Camley Street Nature Park 4AG Tuesday 21st March and 4SG, Thursday 23rd March
At the end of March, there will be an opportunity for your child to bring his/her bike to school for a Bikeability Course 4AG 27th and 28th March and 4SG 29th and 30th March.

Do make sure you look at the year group class pages on our school website regularly to celebrate the children’s learning and work.
As always, you are very welcome to speak to us after school. If you feel you need a longer time to talk, please ring the school office in advance to arrange an appointment.
Best wishes for another great half term.
The Year 4 Team.
