Week beginning 3.6.2013

05 Jun 2013

Literacy:
In literacy this week we have been learning how to use commas to add detail e.g. 'Jack, who enjoys football, ran home to watch the Spurs match' or 'Jesse, a very clever girl, finished her homework in 5 minutes'. Can you write a sentence in the ‘comments’ box below, using a comma to add detail.  Don’t forget, you must log in to add your sentence to the comment box.

Numeracy –

This week we have been learning to partition thousands, hundreds, tens and units. We have been learning how many thousands, hundreds, tens and units are in numbers e.g.. 5768 has 5 thousands, 7 hundreds, 6 tens ad 8 units. We have been using this to order large numbers and to round numbers up or down to the nearest thousand, hundred, or ten.
Try the following links to use and consolidate what you have learnt this week:

Science:

This week we have started learning about electricity. We discussed what electricity is used for and things which use electricity. We also discussed what life would be like without electricity. Try the following links to learn more about the things we use electricity for:

H
istory:
See this weeks 'Purple Mash' project.

Art:

In preparation for next week, when we will be doing work based around the book 'Lila and the Secret of Rain', take a look at some pictures of different African Villages on Google images. We will be re-creating a smaller, table-top version of an African Village using mud rock, sand, dried grass etc. Have a think about what we could include in our village to make it look real. How are the houses made? What materials might we use?
