Week beginning 11.3.13
13 Mar 2013
What a great week regardless of the cold weather.
We’ve been really busy this week with our trip to the synagogue Monday and Red nose day on Friday. Here’s what else we’ve been up to:
Literacy:
This week we have been learning to use ‘past tense’. We wrote a recount of our trip to the farm and our day with Max. We also learnt how to group similar information to form paragraphs. Click on the links below to practise using past tense.

Numeracy:
This week we have been learning to organise information in a tally chart and use that information to draw block graphs and pictograms. We then answered questions based on the graph e.g. which was most/least popular? How many more/less did one have than another? How many people were asked? How many red and blue were seen? Etc. We also looked at some other forms of recording data e.g. pie charts, line graphs and carol diagrams. Some bar graphs had all of the numbers marked out and some went up in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s or 10’s.

Science:
This week has linked in with maths as we have been looking at how to record information in table and graph form. We also went to see the eggs which hatched into chicks in Reception.
Next week is Science week – don’t forget to dress up on Tuesday as a scientist or invention (we have some lab coats here of you don’t have anything at home). In preparation for science week explore the following links to learn more about science in general and to play some great science games!

Next week we will be learning about the life cycle of animals which look similar when young and older e.g. chicks (looking at the chicks in reception) and other animals which change appearance as they grow e.g. frogs and butterflies. Any preparation for this would be great! There will be an owl coming in on Thursday and, following this, we will be learning about nocturnal animals. See links from previous homework page. If you would like to do any other scientifically wondrous things or bring in anything scientific next week we would love to see it!!!!!
