Week beginning 11.2.13

Week beginning 11.2.13

WOW, what a busy, exciting week we've had. Well done Year 2 you've worked extremely hard this term and produced some outstanding work. Thank you to everyone for all you're help and support! I hope you have a fun filled holiday and a well deserved rest.

This week has been assessment week and we have therefore been learning how to apply our skills.

Literacy -
We have been learning how to use speech marks correctly in our work. We learnt that we must open AND CLOSE speech marks around the words a character says. We also learnt that full stops, exclamation marks and question marks are included inside the speech marks. If we use speech marks we must remember to write who is saying it e.g.. "Stop!" shouted Jack. We learnt words such as mumbled, gasped, asked, questioned, yelled, whispered - but DON'T USE 'said'.

Here are some links to help you practise this

Reading -
If you would like to read more books over the half term the following website is great for audio books which you can read at the same time:

http://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/Library/Index/?AgeGroup=5

- just click on a book you want to read (click on the big 'e') and click on 'read e book'. You can also choose books for older age ranges if you want to try a more challenging book.

Maths -
This week we have been learning how to answer multi-step word problems. Here's a website with some word problems to get used to identifying what the question is asking and what kind of sum you need to do:

Science -
This week we have been coming to the end of our 'variation' topic. If you enjoyed this topic and want to find out even more here is a a good website:

More challenging:

Our topic for next half term is 'Plants and Animals in the Local Environment.' This involves the habitats of plants and animals and how they grow. If you'd like to get a head start and learn a little about this before half term then click on the following:

Don't forget 'World Maths, World Literacy and World Science' day in March. Your password is in your home-school diary. We will be doing the challenges in school on that day so get practising! Click on the link below and log in:
