2nd half newsletter
25 Jun 2012
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope that you all had a lovely break and enjoyed the Jubilee celebrations, (if not the weather! ) We are into our last 6 weeks of Year 2, where has the time gone? Here is an overview of the topics we will be covering this half term.
What we will be learning:
Numeracy:
Our focus this half term will be on division as this is a concept they are finding difficult. We will also be going over doubling multiples of 5 and halving multiples of 10, fractions (halves and quarters) and solving word problems, encompassing all the operations we have covered this year, including time and money.
.
Literacy:
We are continuing with our story about the Princess and the White Bear King by Tanya . We will also be continuing to work on improving our writing by adding connectives and adjectives, punctuation such as commas., speech marks, exclamation and question marks. We will also be developing our dictionary and thesaurus skills, We will be linking in with our history topic by writing reports and recounts of the Great Fire of London
Science.:
We will be finishing our topic on forces and then we will be exploring variation in plants and animals. This looks at the differences and similarities between species.
History and Art:
We are continuing with our topic on the Great Fire of London and how it has affected life in London since. As we said in the last newsletter if you have any artefacts or books you would like to share with the children, please send them in, Please make sure they are labelled so that they don’t get lost among our school books. We will be making a class display to depict the Fire, working in 3-D to make it more realistic.
Other subjects::
In PSHE, we are continuing to look at making the right choices in every aspect of life, at school, at home and at play. We discuss these issues with the children in Circle Time. In music, the children will be exploring Flamenco, building up to our Spanish Day. They will also be exploring sounds using different instruments to illustrate poems and stories. In ICT, we are continuing to explore our new scheme of work and the children will do some work that links in with their history topic They will now work with Mrs Jones in their ICT lessons. In RE we will be looking at Places of Worship in different religions.
Homework::
We will be getting back to normal with our homework. For spellings, we will be revising the list of key words in their home school diaries.
Sports Day:
Sports Day will be on
Tuesday 26th June. More details will be given out later.
Spanish Day:
As we said in the letter before half term, we will be having a Spanish day on Friday 22
nd June. Please join us after school for Sangria and Tapas from 3.30-4.15. We are looking forward to seeing all the costumes. Please do not feel that you have to go out and buy these costumes,, a frilly skirt/shirt, a big hat, flower headbands or bows and red/black material for a cape. Are a few ideas. Look on the internet for further help – no pressure. This is going to be a fun ‘wow’ day!
School trips::
We are all looking forward to the trip to the Museum of London on Thursday 28
th June for Miss Lloyd’s class and Thursday 5thJuly for Mrs Leftwich’s class. Many thanks to the parents who have volunteered to come along and help. We will send out a letter before the trip to remind you of some .dos and don’ts.
