1DL Phoebe, Elise, Faith, Frank

19 Jun 2013

The children in 1DL have enjoyed lots of creative activities based on the book "The Snail and the Whale".

In the story, the snail goes on a journey with the whale, but the whale gets stuck on the beach. So the snail gets help from the local school.  Luckily the firebrigade rescue the whale.

We watched an episode of Newsround.
We pretended to be news reporters and interviewed the characters about the incident with the whale.

Have a look at our news report.
We would love to read your comments.

Faith is so excited and asked me to watch it immediately after school. Reporting is an interesting way of building up children's confidence in speech, reading and expression. Wish they could invent their own story in group, so it will come more natural and spontaneous. Well done all!

Frank really enjoyed this! He said he'd like to do more reporting activities! He felt the background, (the news symbol), made it all feel very real. As a parent this was fantastic to watch, thank you Ms Lee. More Handsworth Primary News Reports!

Thank you for your comments. I am glad the children enjoyed it. We spent one literacy lesson watching a news report, discussing the reporters role and then rehearsing it in our groups. The next literacy lesson was spent refining our news reports and filming.
